Our
school is delighted to see an encouraging advance in 2010 HKALE results
while both the overall pass rate and credit rate are higher than that
of last year. In addition, both pass rates and credit rates in Chinese
Language and Culture, Computer Applications, History and Geography are
higher than the overall average in Hong Kong, among which the pass rate
in Chinese Language and Culture is 96.9% and that in History is 90.9%
along with a remarkable 55% credit rate. The pass rates of Chinese
History and Pure Mathematics are also higher than the overall average
in Hong Kong.
General speaking, exam pass rates in 7 subjects
are much higher this year, especially in Use of English where there is
a sharp increase by 13% from the previous year. The pass rate of the
science class in UE reaches 80%.
Above all, we would like to
congratulate the following students with excellent results in the exam:
Katie Sing 1A2B2C、Ken Ng 1A2B1C、Emily Ng 1A1B1C and Chu Wai Yan 2B3C.

天
水圍香島中學於2010年高考中取得可喜的成績，各科成績穩步上揚，今年整體合格率及優良率均較去年上升。文化、電腦應用、歷史、地理的合格率及優良率均
高於全港，其中文化科合格率達96.9%，而歷史科合格率達90.9%，優良率更達55%，中史及純數的合格率亦高於全港。
本校今年有七科科目合格率較去年進步，而英文科採取不同策略提升成績，成效顯著，合格率較去年大幅上升13%，若單以理科生而言，合格率更達80%。
此外，我校的成康婷 1A2B2C、伍建恒 1A2B1C、吳芷明1A1B1C及朱慧欣2B3C，多位同學亦取得不俗的成績，可喜可賀！

| Under the leadership of teachers, a number of S6 student-leaders participated in a five-day study tour in Hunan, exploring Zhangjiajie, Wulingyuan, Mao's Childhood House, Chengde Poem Wall and Fenghuang Old Town among scenic places. The students were absorbed in the spectacular natural landscapes, while listening to historical epics and folk tales. On May 16 our school participated in the Family Carnival 2010 event organized by the Wang Yat Resident Service Association, in which various performances including chorus, dancing and magic shows were involved. Also, the volunteering service team played an active role in creating an air of festivity by setting up game booths for the up-coming Father’s Day, and entertaining the residents for a delightful afternoon. On May 9 our school launched the first large-scale rope-skipping contest in Yuen Long, the Heung To Cup-Rope Skipping Competition 2010 in Primary schools, aiming for 'Fight Drugs, Keep Fit, Enjoy Rope-skipping!' Proper physical development has always been our focus and the activity has perfectly served the purpose, not least that the age of taking drugs among HK students has become younger and the situation turned for the worse in these days. As regards, the first-ever rope skipping competition has a far-reaching impact. On one hand, it promotes primary students' awareness in drug taking and develops their positive attitudes to life; on the other hand, it enables them to build up self-confidence and discovers their own potential through such remarkable sport.[Photos]

The atmosphere on the day was so intense that nearly 200 participants from various primary schools took part in the contest. We'd also like to thank the honourable guests who presented the awards to the winners at the closing ceremony, as well as their encouraging speech on regular healthy exercising.

本校於2010年5月9日舉辦了元朗區首個大型跳繩比賽 -「香島盃-元朗區小學跳繩大賽2010」，比賽主題為「跳繩強身 抗毒齊心 跳繩樂繽紛」。本校一向重視體育發展，藉以向學生提倡健康生活。近年，香港學生吸毒的情況有年輕化及普及化的趨勢，此問題亦成為社會各界的焦點。為提高本區小學生的反毒品意識，以及培養他們建立正面及健康活躍的生活態度，本校便舉辦首個區內的跳繩比賽，藉以鼓勵區內小學生參與有益身心的跳繩活動，從中發掘自我潛能，建立自信。[比賽相片]

On May 2 the school's Marching Band was invited to go on parade for the launching ceremony of the Youth Day in Yuen Long District. The slogan of the show parade was 'Build the city with harmony and diversity', aiming to strengthen a diverse caring community among youngsters. The show parade, consisted of more than 2000 locals and Southeast Asians, took place at Tin Sai Park and finished graciously at Tin Shui Wai Park and Kingswood Ginza facilitated by a temporary road closure in Tin Shui Road. Recently, the Academics Department, Class Divisions and School Houses have organized a 'Fun' Homework Reward Scheme, a rewarding activity encouraging students to hand in homework on time. Students are all excited and enthusiastic about redeeming gifts from their homework records and the activity serves the purpose of motivating a good learning habit.
